Destination Weddings: Kona, Hawaii

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Elegant Weddings by Angela picked up and went to Kona, Hawaii to execute a wedding for 80+ guests. We worked all week on the event and participated in activities with the guests. In those activities we picked plumeria to make leis for all the guests who attended the ceremony. This was not such a good idea because there are spiders that protect the plumeria. The couple had a special first dance, as it was sung by the best man Chris Pierce and the Minister. The stacked wedding cake added an element of glamour to the event. The guests danced the night with DJ Tiger, who kept the party going all night long. We had guests fly in from all over but the majority of them came from Tennessee and California. The groom’s family lived in Kona, which was very helpful in having some inside connections.

Destination Wedding: Kona Hawaii- Monika & Eric

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

Elegant Weddings by Angela picked up and flew to Kona to execute a destination wedding for 80+ people. We spent the entire week prepping for the wedding and doing activities with all of the guests. We picked plumeria to make leis for each guests at the ceremony, not a great idea because spiders protect the plumeria! The flowers were purchased from the Farmer’s Market. The minister and the best man, Chris Pierce, sang the couple’s first dance song. We had guests that traveled from all over but primarily from Tennessee and California. The groom’s family is from Kona, having some local contacts was very helpful. We had beautiful pictures from Toby Hoogs. The day resulted in a beautiful creation, filled with love!

Whitney & Jon: Schermerhorn Symphony Center

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

The Schermerhorn Symphony Center served as a beautiful setting for Whitney and Jon’s wedding.  The floral design was amazing, provided by Oshi, which filled the room with delicate elegance.  We loved the personalized details throughout the wedding such as the wishing tree decorated with pictures of their families.  The “sweet treat” tables were a huge hit with mini desserts, cupcakes, and lots of chocolate. The Nashvegas Allstars kept the party rockin’ and made sure everyone had a great time.

Catherine’s Wedding

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

There is never a dull moment in the event industry! This past weekend took Elegant Weddings down to Columbia, Tennessee for another private residence wedding to be featured in a show later this summer by CMT! We stepped in to assist with the planning of this wedding about four weeks before the date, which made for a very busy month! Collaboration and communication was key in preparing for this event, and while the day was extremely hot and long, everyone communicated and worked together to make the day run as smoothly as possible. Of course there were challenges to overcome, but that’s what we were there for!

The ceremony took place in the yard around the pool, with the bride’s aisle actually a runway bridging the pool! As the music changed and the bride was about to take her trip down the aisle/runway, sheer drapes parted to reveal her standing with her father as rose petals floated effortlessly from the balcony. CMT Interview sessions with the bride and groom continued after the ceremony, and after family pictures were quickly concluded, cocktail hour finished with the guests finding their way into the reception tent.

The cake was a beautiful design of strawberry and buttercream to perfectly match the pinks, jewels, feathers, and sparkles the bride chose, along with cake shots identical to the wedding cake and a separate chocolate shot. The candles, and lace tablecloths and other décor were brought to life by the string lights and parameter up-lighting strategically arranged around the tent. A very memorable reception!  And while the day was long and hot, our event team’s passion and commitment to our clients made it all worthwhile at the night’s end when the bride and groom were pleased with their day.

The couple was featured on CMT’s hit show “Last Days Before I Do”. Only a few days before they were to be married, they each went on dates with other people in the ultimate test to their relationship. It was a journey to find themselves and challenge their love.

Rachel & Adam: Assumption and Rumours East

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

It was a hot summer day when the bride called me and asked me to move the pictures from oustide to inside. It worked out perfect that they were getting ready at the Hutton Hotel that provided a modern backdrop for their pictures by Arden Photography. Karen Hendrix did alterations and provided wardrobe managment on the day of wedding. Nashville Event Lighting hung glamourous chandeliers from the outdoor canopy. The guests enjoyed a family style dinner instead of the usual seated dinner, very fun!

Julie & Nick: Scarritt Bennett & The Cannery Ballroom

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Videography by  Z Squared Studios.

The first thought that comes to mind when thinking of Julie and Nick is “there is a first for everything!”  From the beautiful backdrop of Scarritt Bennett to the minute intricate details awaiting the guests at the Cannery Ballroom, no one could be prepared for the surprises inside!

Pictures of the couple masked the perimeter wall upon entering the Cannery that led guests into the main ballroom featuring amazing lighting by Nashville Event Ligting.  Tin shades, handmade by the bride’s father, hung between the crevice slots in the bar, while custom boxes branded, made by Brian Best, with the couple’s monogram were the talk of the night. It was all rested amongst a setting of candles and rose petals along the bar top. Flowers, designed by Village of Flowers, intertwined with cotton accents and entourages of bright blossoms were hung above each guest table, elongating the wedding’s country theme.  Beautiful crystals and wrought iron chandeliers with scattered candles created a romantic feel with custom pillows, table runners, and table caps adding to the rustic country vibe.

By far the highlight of the night was the unveiling of the suspended cake, provided by Jay Qualls.  Reminiscent of a hanging swing, the suspended cake hung by chains stemming from the nearly 10ft ceiling, creating an aura of depth with free flowing elegance.  Paired with the delicious food from Chef’s Market, the night was filled with tasty surprises. Elegant Weddings had a great time planning this event!

Katy & Rich: Cannery Ballroom

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

With both the bride and groom being brought up in the music industry, it was only fitting for Katy and Rich to be married in their beloved city of Nashville.  The Catholic ceremony was held at Assumption, where Rich and his brothers sang a beautiful song during Mass. The guests danced the night away to the band, Skyline Drive in the Cannery Ballroom. The design team transformed the Cannery into a modern New York feel affair. Mirrors were hung at varying heights, shapes and sizes against the rock wall, and an Italian feast was prepared by Flavor Catering. Despite the Catholic service, Katy danced the Jewish Hora in honor of her friends’ heritages, which added to such a fun night that ended with doughnuts and milk from Krispy Kreme.

I attended a design conference in Miami, Florida sponsored by Enchanted Brides at the Biltmore Hotel. Joe Bussink was the featured keynote speaker for the photography conference. The wedding planning conference was hosted by Jackie Ohh for new wedding planners. It was great way to collaborate with her and her team in an effort to inspire new and upcoming planners. Divine Images, Alice Hendry, and Jay Qualls were also in attendance.

Rehearsal Dinner at Noah Liff Opera Center

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

Rachel and Trey’s rehearsal dinner was one for the books! Chef’s Market provided food that could be considered edible art.  Drapery created a more intimate space, crushed metal screens with a red glow behind gave the room a warm feeling, creative and delicious foods served throughout the night, while beautiful floral arrangements of ivory roses with red branches blending the arrangements with the present colors of the space. Custom napkins adorned with a ‘W’ represented the couples’ new last initial, while the band had everyone up participating in dancing to close the night! Custom stones as favors cut with the couple’s favorite saying “Love Never Fails” as guests left.

The Elegant Weddings Team traveled to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the gorgeous wedding of Neil and Sunita. Mary June & Greg Marry!

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Congrats to Mary June and Greg! Their wedding was certainly a memorable one as there were many different elements; we had cloggers, cow bells for favors and the theme screamed country south! It was a blast to plan from the very beginning to end!

We thought we would share with you an article that paints the amazing experience:

“”Hitting it out of the Ball Park to making a Hit in Nashville”

There’s no denying that Mary-June Seibel and Gregory Wu are successful, ambitious and driven individuals. Just look at their records. Mary-June, a graduate from Lipscomb University and Boston University School of Medicine and Gregory a graduate of University of Illinois of Urbana Champaign, Tufts School of Dental Medicine, and his residency at University of California Los Angeles. In planning their wedding, they wanted to create a sophisticated Southern wedding that had a modern twist.

The American south has remained unique in the way that is has maintained its heritage of elegance and good breeding through the years. The south is known for its knack to be host to elaborate social events, its generous nature and a mix of both modern and vintage style. “I do not think you have to be from the South to be traditional, but traditions do hold strong and true for Southerners.” In planning her own wedding, Southern Tradition was very important. Keeping with the Southern Theme, Mary-June turned to Angela Proffitt of Elegant Weddings by Angela to tie in Southern traditions with a modern twist. Mary-June was confident that Angela would be able to take her ideas and weave them into her dream Southern wedding. The results was a wedding that perfectly reflected Mary-June and Greg’s personality as a couple.

The vision included a touch of Music City for music lovers, since that’s where love found them. The Invitations had two love birds printed in a soft baby blue paper from Buchanan Ink with customized invitations in calligraphy by Val Cole with the final magic touch was the Old School Cowboy Roy Rogers stamp with the “oh-so-Southern feel.”

To capture this special day, Leslie and Bill Emmetts of Divine Images were there to take every precious moment. During Mary-June’s bridal portraits she focused on elements associated with her late grandfather, Howard Seibel, Sr. Her late grandfather’s dream was to sing in the Grand Ole Opry with famous country singers like Johnny Cash to Hank Williams. In honor of her late grandfather, Mary-June used her grandfather’s musical instruments, Mandolin and Ziegler to keep his memory alive. The fondest memories she has of her grandfather was wearing cowboy boots and playing the guitar to his favorite country tune. And with true Southern Style, she wore cowboy boots to tie the Nashville Theme Wedding. With Divine Images magic touch, Lesli and Bill placed Mary-June on stage at the Grand Ole Opry singing her heart away.

Divine Images captured every moment, without skipping a beat. The Day began with photos taken at historical places in Nashville. The Parenthon was the first place Mary-June and Greg choose to take their wedding photos. They included a special member of their family… their malti-poo London. He was styling like his parents! London wore a Juicy Couture Tuxedo from Nordstroms with the matching leash from Saks 5th Avenue. Mary-June and Greg were extremely lucking that Union Station allowed the couple to take their wedding photos with their little London. Mary-June wanted a unique and memorable day that would have the guest loving Nashville’s beauty. The Country Music Hall of fame was so gracious to allow the bridal party and the Brides family to take photos in the Museum. The bridesmaids wore a navy Jim Hjelm chiffon tea-length, ruffle cascade detail on one shoulder strap from Faccio Bridal.

In holding with Wedding Tradition, Mary-June had her something new- Jim Hjelm Ivory Lace Wedding Gown/Godfather Waltz Earrings by PARIS that had an antique flair, something blue- Christian Louboutin blue shoes from Neiman Marcus, something old/borrowed- antique brooch from her maid of honor. Each element of the wedding wanted a traditional Southern element, from the Church to the reception. What is more Southern than a big white steeple church! Woodmont Christian Church is a southern bride’s dream place to have a wedding. With its majestic white steeple to the long red carpet aisle, this is a perfect entrance for a Southern Belle. For the ceremony, Mary-June wore a ivory lace Jim Hjelm dress with a pretty little bow in the back and a long Cathedral lace veil (both from Faccio Bridal). With Mary-June’s father in hand and a large bouquet of white roses by Village of Flowers, she marched down the aisle to the organist and trumpets playing, “Trumpet Voluntary.” Following the ceremony, guest were shuttled by the FADDS trolley to the Country Music Hall of Fame, while the Bride and Groom rode in style in a vintage seafoam/metallic colored Bentley from Matchless.

Mary-June’s passion for Country Music and music history was clear. The Country Music Hall of Fame has a special place in Mary-June’s heart. For her 6th grade English class project, students were to write a “Country Theme” lyrics and a winner would have their lyrics played at the Country Music Hall of Fame. What’s more country, than writing about your dog. Mary-June wrote a song about her poodle Cindy that died a few months earlier. Well, to Mary-June’s surprise, during the class tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame, her lyrics were chosen and played by the song writer that filled the room with music. She choose the wedding to be during the Country Music Festival, so that the out-of-town guest can experience Nashville’s first love, Country Music.

For the décor, Mary-June and Angela used sleek ottomans from Music City Tents and Events, tailored skirted tables from Connie Duglin, and Chavari chairs to transform the Rotunda into a glamorous lounge. Simple was key, since the Rotunda is beautiful by itself. The Hall of Fame Rotunda honors the heart and soul of country music. Within the bronzed circle of those artists who have shaped Country Music history. With its inscription, “The Circle Will Be Unbroken,” the Rotunda was the perfect place to celebrate a marriage! She incorporated navy and yellow linens throughout the reception hall with yellow flowers and lemons on each table. Ice sculptures of a guitar and cowboy boots were also a eye-catching décor used to grab attention, as well as a “cowgirl” painting for the special occasion. Instead of doing the traditional guest book, Divine Images complied a navy photo book of Mary-June’s bridal portraits for the guest to sign. For the reception, Mary-June wore a strapless gown designed by Badgley Miscaka from B. Hughes and a caged horse bow veil that reflected an old Hollywood Glamour look. From the dresses to the reception, Mary-June’s vision reflects her love of architecture and clean lines. Guest were offered Hors D’oeuvre when they arrived in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Guest enjoyed fried green tomatoes, cheese grit cakes, crawfish sushi rolls, and washed it down with Lynchburg Lemonade in Mason Jars.

But the main meal was the true showcase of Southern elegance, featuring fried boneless chicken with pecan stuffing, macaroni and cheese in individual martini glasses, French styled green beans, and organic yellow seedless watermelon. Going with the Southern Tradition, she choose a cake that reflected her groom’s 2nd love… The Boston Red Sox! Jay Qualls of Maple Wedding Cakes designed a groom’s cake that resembled miniature version of the “Green Monster.” The Wedding Cake was elegant reflection of the bride’s vision. The wedding cake consisted in platinum and pearls done in a soft yellow with a navy blue ribbon.

Entertainment for the wedding wasn’t the run-of-the-mill! Music for the reception was provided by the Craig Duncan Band. The surprise entertainment for the wedding was The Craig Duncan Cloogers. The Cloogers wowed the crowd by interacting with the guest with good ole Southern clooging! As the evening was beginning to end, as close friends of the Bride and Groom got on stage with the Craig Duncan Band to sing Kenny Roger’s “The Gambler” and Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” in honor of the Boston Red Sox! The night was magical in every way possible. A great ending to a beautiful day… the band wrapped the last song by singing, “Song of the South.”

The evening ended with each guest getting a “Moon Pie, Goo Goo Bars, and cowbells with the inscription of Mary-June and Greg.” With the cowbells in hand, the each wedding guest rang the bells while the Bride and Groom exited the Country Hall of Museum to begin their new life together. For her final dress change, Mary-June wore a sexy above the knee Priscilla of Boston halter dress from The Bride Room with cowboy boots. The party didn’t end at the reception! Guest were shuttled back to their final destination in a party bus that had a DJ on board! Their final exit was just as magical as it began. The evening ended with fireworks, courtesy of CMA Festival. Both Bride and Groom rode off in a vintage white colored Jaguar from Matchless to their evening at Union Station Hotel. It was a magical evening that their guest will cherish.

Kristin & Rafael: Scarritt Bennett & Union Station

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Elegant Weddings had the pleasure of planning Kristin and Rafael’s wedding at Scarritt Bennett and Union Station. As you can see from the pictures, captured by Image Trick, everyone had a blast! One of our favorite things about this wedding was how they incorporated their floral centerpieces into the favors for their guests. At each seat, guests had a card communicating to them to take a plant as they departed the wedding reception, and they could watch their plant grow, as they have witnessed Kristin and Rafael’s love grow for one another.
